Twitter Boom

WordPress.com had a functionality to automatically republish a post on Twitter, Tumblr, Facebook, LinkedIn, Google+, etc. This functionality was called "Publicize", it is now called "auto-sharing". Once I moved to my own server, I did not bother to republish. Last week, I started to republish all my hitherto unpublished posts, i.e., posts, which I did not republish on Twitter so far, to publish them on Twitter. I did this in a manual fashion. I clicked on each of my posts, copied the relevant part of the post and then pasted that into Twitter. The most enerving thing was, that Twitter has this length limit of ca. 280 characters.

When I looked at the statistics, I was quite surprised to see how much more traffic my server now received. Usually I get 600-800 visits each month. Now even at the beginning of December I already have more than 1,200 visits.

The following tweets from Elon Musk characterize this.
