Josef Reicha (12 February 1752 – 5 March 1795) was a Bohemian cellist, composer, and conductor. He adopted his nephew Anton Reicha.

Bernhard Romberg (14 November 1767 – 13 August 1841) was a German cellist and composer.

Karl Davydov (03 March 1838 – 14 February 1889) was a Russian cellist and composer.

Julius Klengel (24 September 1859 – 27 October 1933) was a German cellist and composer. His father was a lawyer and an amateur musician, and was friend of Mendelssohn.

Bernhard Molique (7 October 1802 – 10 May 1869) was a German violinist and composer.

Georg Eduard Goltermann (19 August 1824 – 29 December 1898) was a German cellist and composer.
